Welcome to the School of Automation of Wuhan University of Technology!
With a long-standing educational history, the School of Automation was founded in 1958. Following the university's merger and restructuring in 2001, it was formally established as the School of Automation. Upholding the college spirit of "Boya (Erudition), Qiuzhen (Truth-seeking), Liren (Person-building)", the school has continuously promoted high-quality development in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services. It currently has 140 faculty members, including 24 professors and researchers, 64 associate professors, senior experimentalists, and associate researchers. The school has established a well-structured, innovation-driven team with a complete echelon, comprising 1 provincial talent plan recipient, 2 Elsevier China Highly Cited Scholars, 1 discipline chief professor, 1 young top talent, 1 famous teacher of quality courses, 1 famous teacher of first-class courses, 12 young teaching masters, etc. Over 80% of full-time faculty hold doctoral degrees from domestic or overseas institutions. The school currently enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduate students and over 600 full-time doctoral and master's students.
The school consists of the Department of Automation, Department of New Energy and Power Engineering, Department of Applied Electronic Engineering, Department of Robotics Engineering, as well as the Basic Electrical and Electronic Teaching & Experimental Center and Professional Teaching Experimental Center. It offers three undergraduate programs: Automation, Electrical Engineering and its Automation, and Robotics Engineering. Among them, Automation and Electrical Engineering and its Automation are both national first-class undergraduate program construction sites and pilot programs of the Ministry of Education's Excellence Engineer Project. The school has two first-level master's degree programs in Control Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering, as well as two professional master's degree programs in Electronic Information and Energy Power. It also features a doctoral program and postdoctoral research station in Traffic Information Engineering and Control, along with two professional doctoral degree programs in Electronic Information and Energy Power, forming a high-level talent cultivation chain from undergraduate to master's and doctoral levels.
Relying on the three major industries of building materials & construction, transportation, and automotive, the school actively engages in characteristic scientific research in control engineering and electrical engineering to meet national strategic needs and local economic development. It hosts the Hubei New Energy Power Battery Engineering Technology Research Center, participates in constructing national research platforms such as the National Engineering Research Center for Optical Fiber Sensing Technology and Networks and the National Engineering Research Center for Traffic Safety Emergency Technology, and collaborates with local governments to establish new university-local research institutions like the Foshan Xianhu Laboratory, Wuhan University of Technology Gaoyou Research Institute, and Wuhan University of Technology Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Collaborative Cangzhou Institute. It has become a hub for technological innovation and achievement transformation in the era of automation, electrification, informatization, and intelligence. In recent years, the school has undertaken a large number of national key R&D programs, major national science and technology projects, international science and technology cooperation projects, National Natural Science Foundation projects, major projects of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, key provincial and ministerial research projects, and enterprise cooperation projects. It has won 22 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievement awards, obtained 358 authorized patents, published over 1,000 academic papers in important domestic and international journals, and published 18 monographs and textbooks.
The school actively promotes international cooperation and academic exchanges. In the past five years, nearly 100 faculty members have visited overseas institutions or attended international conferences. It has hosted or co-hosted influential international events such as the International Conference on Industrial Informatization and Intelligent Technology (ICIICII), EU Low Voltage Electrical Products Regulation Seminar, EDUNET Asian Annual Conference, and participated in organizing series of international conferences like the Asian Energy and Electrical Engineering Symposium, World Electric Vehicle Congress, and International Symposium on Applications of Wireless Technology in Smart Grids. By enrolling and cultivating international students from various countries, the school has continuously enhanced its internationalization capabilities in academic research and talent cultivation.
Committed to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, the school focuses on "quality improvement" and "team building" in all aspects of student education, management, and services. It fully implements the "Wonderful Cultural Innovation Initiative," aiming to establish models, create achievements, and innovate mechanisms. Dedicated to cultivating students' comprehensive qualities and innovation-entrepreneurship capabilities, the school actively organizes and guides students to participate in various college student science and technology competitions and social practice activities. Students have achieved outstanding results in national and provincial competitions such as the "Challenge Cup" College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, "Chuangqingchun" National College Student Entrepreneurship Competition, and National College Student Robot Competition. In 2021, they won the national championship in the China Society of Automotive Engineers Baja Competition (Electric Group), and in 2022, they claimed the national championship in the 16th "Siemens Cup" China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge.
Graduates from the school are renowned for their solid professional theoretical foundation, strong software/hardware application capabilities, and broad adaptability, winning wide acclaim and favor from social employers.
