2024-05-12 10:05

From May 7 to 11, 2024, the 2024 Baja SAE China Competition, guided by the China Association for Science and Technology and hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAE-China), was held in Xiangyang, Hubei Province. After five days of intense competition, the Wuhan University of Technology (WHUT) Electric BAJA Racing Team successfully completed all events and secured an outstanding achievement, reclaiming the National Championship in the Electric Category following their 2021 victory.

During the one-year preparation period, the Electric BAJA team overcame numerous challenges. With over 40 members working tirelessly day and night, they successfully designed and built their vehicle to represent the university. Throughout the five-day competition, team members demonstrated composure and perseverance across multiple stages: safety and compliance inspections, vehicle design evaluation, cost and manufacturing analysis, commercial marketing, lap timing, towing, handling events, and a 2-hour endurance race. Scoring an exceptional 791.86 points, they claimed first place in the Electric Category, showcasing WHUT students’ exceptional academic standards, practical skills, and the team spirit of "unity, dedication, resilience, and pursuit of excellence."

Founded in 2015, Baja SAE China is a national competition for automotive design, fabrication, and driving. Teams must design and build a single-seat, mid-engine/motor small off-road vehicle using specified engine/motor models within one year. The WHUT Electric BAJA Racing Team was jointly established in December 2018 by the School of Automation, School of Automotive Engineering, and School of International Education. Supported by functional departments such as the Undergraduate School and the Youth League Committee, it has become a science and technology innovation platform open to all WHUT students.

Since participating in Baja SAE China in 2019, the team has cumulatively won 3 national first prizes and 1 national second prize. Generations of outstanding students trained through the competition have entered the automotive industry, embodying the university’s educational philosophy of "delivering excellence, cultivating exceptional talents, and creating extraordinary lives."
