To deepen international academic exchanges and expand channels for Sino-foreign scientific research cooperation, the School of Automation, Wuhan University of Technology, hosted an International Academic Lecture and Cooperation Forum in Room 327, Qiushi Building on the afternoon of May 12, 2026. The event specially invited Associate Professor Alexandros Paspatis from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, as the keynote speaker. Professors Yin Xin and Huang Yunhui, along with faculty members Wei Peng, Tang Xiaomei and Jiang Jifu from the school, attended the forum, and students from relevant majors also participated on site.
During the lecture, Professor Alexandros Paspatis delivered an academic report entitled Grid-Forming Inverter Control, Stability and Testing for Inverter-Dominated Power Systems. The report first analyzed the core challenges in control and stability faced by new-type power systems amid the large-scale integration of inverter-based power sources. It then presented cutting-edge research advances in the modeling and control of grid-forming inverters, with an emphasis on advanced control strategies to guarantee the stable operation of power grids under both normal and abnormal operating conditions. The professor also shared technical approaches to hardware-in-the-loop testing, providing valuable academic inspiration for all teachers and students present.
Following the lecture, the two sides conducted in-depth discussions on multi-dimensional international cooperation topics. They exchanged views on cooperation priorities and implementation pathways such as joint research projects, academic paper publication, and joint supervision of doctoral candidates, reaching a number of initial cooperation consensuses. This has laid a solid foundation for cross-border academic collaboration and talent cultivation between the School and Manchester Metropolitan University.
This event not only exposed faculty and students to the latest frontiers in power system research, but also built a communication bridge for Sino-foreign academic cooperation. It is of positive significance for advancing the school’s international academic exchanges and deepening cross-regional scientific research collaboration.
